NO WHERE BUT HERE

Acts 13

36“For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;

Ever asked yourself what am I doing?   Why am I here? Why now?

I’m sure these are questions many of us have asked before, Ssometimes coming from a cry of disparity when nothing seem to be going the right way, or sometimes coming from reflections on things in the rearview. No matter how you ask those questions, and no matter the state you’re in, we all have a purpose, we are given the provisions, but we have to choose to make it a priority.

The words I would like everyone reading this to look at and reflect upon.are these, “after he had served his own generation by the will of God”.

David served his own generation, not only that but according to the perfect and infallible will of God  If God called you home tomorrow. Could we say this about our own lives? Could this part of verse 36 be used by a preacher to sum up your life?

Neither you nor I can go back in time, or ahead into the future and serve a different generation. God has placed you and I right here, right now.   At this very moment He has equipped each and every one of us to serve their own generations, and it’s according to His will that you are here right now. It’s His purpose that you are where you are in your own life. You have been equipped to serve.

Will you? .

What Is Truth?

How do we define truth in our own lives? Is truth something that is based on reality.  Is truth defined upon circumstance, or is truth something much more? Is truth something that is founded beyond anything concrete that we can physically see and rationalize, or yet again is it just something abstract that we just go along with, so the stride of life isn’t broken.

Sometimes, we allow the circumstances of life to write our definition of truth.  We are like a wave in the sea tossed about because we have lost our foundation of truth, the truth that is found is God’s Holy Word, the Bible.  It’s simple for us to do, life takes a toll on each and every one of us, and in the onslaught of the day to day struggle we lose sight of the truth that can be found in scripture.

The disciples in Mark 4 had this same problem, and this loss of truth, was a direct result of a  lack of trust or lack of faith in Jesus’ words. Jesus said to them as they boarded the boat, “Let us cross over to the other side” (Mark 4:35). Those words were certain, that was truth, and in that very moment Jesus defined truth to the disciples. They were going to cross to the other side, not make it half way then sink, or go off course, but going to cross the body of water and land on the other side.

We all know the rest of this story, how a great storm took place, tossing the boat to and fro as Jesus slept in the stern, and the disciples were afraid of dying. What I really want us to look at here is how these men, these disciples of the Son of God allowed a heavy rain and wind to alter their perception of truth. By allowing the circumstance outside of the boat to alter and redefine the truth that Jesus had spoken earlier, “Let us cross to the other side”.   These men became afraid and lost all trust in The Truth. We too, myself included, are all guilty of this. It’s easy for us to lose sight of the truth in God’s Word because we think this isn’t going as planned, or this isn’t how it should be. When all along He assures us we will get to the other side. No matter how bumpy the ride, the truth has been defined. Faith in Jesus Christ will certainly, without a single doubt get us to the other side.
